What is a Help App?

A help application is a program that is used to handle file types that the browser is unable to. Those do not include HTML files or GIF and JPEG image files. A help application must be downloaded, and the browser must be informed about the app’s name. It runs as an individual program in its own window.

A plug-in is the alternative of a help app. It runs automatically in the window of the browser.
